The artist Johan A. Vikse has placed an auction on his Facebook profile on this specially made original piece to honor the victims of Utøya 22.07.11. The work is A3 format marker and resembles the 77 victims that lost their lifes in the tragic event of terror this summer.
The total amount will be dedicated to the memory foundation of one of the Utøya victims, Sondre F. Dales Minnefond.

These days I do new designs for fall 2012 collections, and have worked a lot on knits. I am fascinated on the different techniques, gauges , yarns and traditions of this old craft, and have many times since I was young started knitting project that was never finished. And I am not the only one...
The norwegian textile artist Kari Steihaug made different peoples unfinished knit work into a project that has resulted in an exhibition and a book called "De Ufullendte" (The Incomplete)
All unfinished works are presented with a story behind them, and is just as fascinating as the work it self.

Our summerhouse is an old farm, and we are the fifth generation to "live" here. I have many memories from this place, and looking through some of the diaries from this place, I found some very nice photos I want to share with you.

This sauce boat has a new purpose too; just to look gorgeous on top of this little shelve in pale blue, and hold the beautiful wild flower bouquets!

On the knobs under the shelf a small collection of porcelain cups.

YARN

This lampshade I knitted one night with double yarn and draped it over an old lampshade frame.
The lamp is an old floor lamp in cast iron, originally in black, but with three strokes of white paint it blended nicely in to the interior.
Next to the lamp a round corner table that has been in the house forever. Now its purpose is just to look nice with some still life items - left over yarn, a green vase from the 50`s and a candle.

This blue and old shelf for dinner plates has a new task as a holder for my interior magazines .
I love browsing through the pages for inspiration, and I seem to find new and exciting details and ideas every time!

HINT OF MINT

This spring and summer I added a hint of mint , both in the interior and in my designs of the MeMini collection. I think this is a very fresh and happy color, and still nostalgic and timeless.

HAVESTUEN...

This spring me and my husband inherited the old farm house from my parents.

This is something I have been looking forward to all my life, as I have always been told that this wonderland in the wilderness would be my heritage, as many eldest before me.

So now we can let all the creativity(that has been build up inside for many years) loose and make this our place for recreation and relaxation!

The first photos I show you is from the fantastic extra room outside build from natural stones from the area. My father build these walls with the integrated fireplace by his own hands in 1988, and has up until now improved and expanded the room with sliding glass doors, wooden panels and roof.

Our touch was added by removing all clutter and paint all wood in grey tones to let the beautiful stone walls be the main focus of the room.

We build a lounge by tow layers of euro pallets with angeled backrests.

To make it comfortable we used foam mattresses that I sewed covers for.

To add some color in the room we chose a mint green and pained a flower table and added some pillows in matching colors.

A part of the roof has corrugated plate roof in plastic, not my favourite, but to keep the sunlight we made a thin cotton draping to cover and yet let the light come in.

My mother has always called this room "havestuen" ...

Yesterday I attended a re-opening of the wonderful lifestyle shop Idèhuset in Haugesund.
This shop has excisted for 25 yrs, and I remember very well in my creative youth, buying a lot of stuff to make different kind of craftwork from this shop.
The concept has developed from a craft shop to become one of the cities leading interior and gift shops, presenting some wonderful brands and customer services such as home and interior planning and decorating.
I am so fortunate to present my womens wear collection Kristine Vikse at Idèhuset, and spent yesterday there with the owner Dorthe and her sweet employees. Congratulations with a beautiful and inspiring shop!

SPRING CLEANING

I got the urge to do some cleaning in our closets today... It must be the sun shining on my window!
So I started with the adults wardrobe closet. It is supposed to be a small walk-in closet. Emphasizing supposed to...! This resulted in 4 large bin bags with clothes ready to go to the salvation army donation boxes.
Continuing with all the hidden closets and cleaning room, I must say I am a bit embarrassed and overwhelmed!
How did it end up like this??? This will take many weekends to finish.
HELP!!!

A TREE

Today one of my long interior dreams came through as I finally got a tree in my livingroom!
We picked it up at our holiday place, where it had been sacrificed for a better view, and it just lay there waiting for me...
I forced it into the car and brought it home with me :) After using an outdoor flowerpot and some concrete, the tree now has a new purpose in its afterlife.
It got decorated with small silk flowers and lanterns, and I am sure it has never been as pretty as now!
So now we are both in tree heaven :)

The interior shops has lately been filled with those birch candle holders or candles looking like birch. My facination for this elegant tree goes far back, and I have always wanted a naked birch tree in my living room. In my normally so subtile colored livingroom, I want to add some red with a nordic feeling to it for christmas. So I am looking for some nice cushions, and I want them to match my knitted Lundberg Home cushions in grey shades. While browsing the web I found some inspiration, but not exactly spot-on what I want, so I might have to find my knitting gear to make some.... or maybe find some vintage handknitted sweathers to cut into squares.

Dripping candles

When I was young, one of the things I remember doing on those dark afternoons in authumn, was finding left over candles and drip them. We were never allowed to do this alone, always monitored by an adult. I had forgotten about this whole, very exciting hobby ;) until today. So, now me and the boys spent an hour with flames and candles, dripping them into water in bowls and in gingerbread cake tins. Very 70`s mood! Now we are just waiting to put them in a window for advent decor:)

The very first Kristine Vikse womens collection has reached the shops! It has been a very successful start, and our stock is already sold out after just three weeks......!
Now I have to start the designs of the authumn/winter 2011 collection, and looking for inspiration everywhere for beautiful color themes, fabrics and details. Like on this example with products from this seasons collection, this photo is a great inspiration for this cardigan.

KITCHEN MAKE-OVER

When the cat`s away - the wife starts working on the kitchen, and not in the old-fashioned wife+kitchen way. She decides that she wants to surprised her loving husband with a kitchen face-lift, and starts tearing down the cupboards, tiles and benches, and then there is some regret... She realizes that this little project will take much more time and effort than first expected, but as with a motto as "everything is possible" she keeps on working days and nights as a decorator and contract worker. She puts on new wallpaper, wooden panel, shelves and benches, and gets hold of a plummer to get the new sink in place. Now five days has passed, and she falls exhausted down on the sofa just a couple of hours before the home is invaded once again by kids and husband. So much for a week of total relaxation!

It's a beautiful day

Sone days are just perfect! The sun finally decided to stay for a while, and we got to spend some time by the sea. Just relaxing and listening to the waves in the fresh air from the north sea, without any need of extra clothing to keep warm, is not an eceryday experience here on the windy west coast. It was a beautiful summer day!

I am working with next springs MeMini catalogue inspired with the fantastic work of early 1900's Elsa Beskow. Placing MeMini dressed children into aquarell paintings of nature is a perfect way to show the nordic nostalgia of our collections. These days I spend on the terrasse with brushes and paint, trying to create the background environement to place the photos of the children. Fun and challenging!

Today I took the final step and deleted my private Facebook profile. I have been giving it some thought for some time, and as I also have a company profile and two pages for my design brands, I found no use for the private profile anymore. There is an inside struggle going on wherther the FB is a positive thing for privacy or just destructive for the personal relations; why bother meeting friends for a cup of coffee too hear the latest news when you can follow them on blogs, FB and twitter? I joined FB for professional reasons, but it has developed more personal as I am a sharing person who likes to include my friends in happenings including my family and work. But I have never felt 100% comfortable sharing on FB, so I have found myself holding back and still giving some with some bad concience. So today I finally took the step - and now there is no need for checking if any "friends" has tried to reach me through the FB message or wall. Now I can only concentrate on the work part of it and meet real friends on a nice cafè or talk to them on the phone! What ever happened to dropping by unannounced one boring afternoon? A short visit for small talk and a hug? How are you - nice to see you! It`s been a long time - love your new hairdo!
The next struggle is wherter I should continue blogging or not.... Somehow this is the next decition to make. I like the thought of gathering these small inspirations and everyday moments somewhere, but not sure about the net part. I think I have too much to share....

On our terrasse we made a spa with restaurant for The little birdies :) An old ceramic bowl works as a bath on hot summer days, and some seed balls is as main course. The spa is elegantly decorated with a frog and a broccoli plant! Dig in!

Going home

With these last photos from Mallorca, we head back home tomorrow morning . This last day has been the only one with bad weather during 14 days, with heavy rain and thunder, so we spent the day strolling around and eating good food:)

Magical caves

Today we had the most fantastic tour in the magical caverns ofthe dragon in Porto Cristo. The caves are nature made and was engineered with lights many years ago, so the amazing formations of dripstones becomed a landscape beyond all imagination! We even viewed a concert with live music on boats on the worlds largest undersea lake. Just magical ! We were not allowed to take photos so I borrowed some images.....

We are in paradise! Sandy beach, straw parasols, blue sky and a gentle sea breeze..... The kids are playing in the sand, looking for stones and shells to save as treasures and make decorations on the castles. Heavenly!

What I do all day? Lay on my back reading books under The sun:) I am already half way in my second one ;"Hvitvasking" by Tom Kristensen - novel number two That I have read from This Norwegian authour in short time. Exciting financial thrillers! Yesterday I finished "Cash" by swedish Jens Laupidus. More agressive and violent, but I can't wait to see The film, soon on a Movie near you :)
I Think I have to look for a book store for more to read, still many hours of great reading to do! I just hope to find something else than romantic pocket literature!

Lounge inspiration

I have earlier blogged about our homemade lounge on our terasse, and found out that we are not at all alone with this idea! A large part of a restaurant here in Cala Bona has a lounge build just like ours, but in a mediterranian style. Using fabric in earth colores and some old, brazilian coffe bags it gives a more rough look than ours. I only wish we had The same view from our lounge at home!!!!

My house is invaded by cute little birdies.... I do not know what they are looking for or want from me, but they make a lot of noice! Although they are VERY cute, and hungry, I am a bit tired of washing windows after their attempt to build nests around and under my roof. Maybe it is because I have a tendency to collect too many bird houses! If I count - there must be at least 5 or 6 of them, even a complex with 6 rooms, so I guess they think this is a place of great hospitality!

Vår terrasse har et nytt tema i år. Inspirert av The New England stilen, flagg elementer, sjekket mønstre og baby blå detaljer, våre hjørnet under Halv taket skaper en følelse av nærhet til sjøen. Dette utendørs environement brukes ofte som en stue om sommeren, og vi bare ga det en make-over med disse nye detaljene. Vi har også lagt til en grå bakvegg i samme farge som resten av huset vårt. Nå er alt vi savner er Den varme sommernetter!

The Chinese cherry tree in my garden is 5 years old, and This year it has a late blossoming due to The long winter. But it is however carrying a lot more flowers than last year! I would like to ligh under The falling branches - it reminds me a bit of Avatar...

BLOGGESPERRE ....

Har hatt litt bloggesperre her inne, men jeg har blogget på www.kristinevikse.com og www.memini.no. Det har blitt nye nettsider på begge stedene, i wordpress med innebygget blogg. Jeg savner nå litt det personlige preget man får på Blogger, men det er vel kanskje litt ryddigere med alt på et sted, rent profesjonelt? Nå jobbes det med vår kolleksjonen for Kristine Vikse 2011. Det er litt av en utfordring siden det er første vår/sommer kolleksjon for dame, og vi damer er ikke like lette å tilfredstille som barn når det gjelder påkledning! Mye å ta hensyn til i både passform, farger og kvaliteter... men det går mot en ferdig kolleksjon.
Navnene på produktene er ihvertfall på plass, denne gang hentet fra Beatles titler. Så gjelder det å gjenstå om min Yesterday, Dear Prudence og Let it be blir like store hits som orginalene?
Legger ved litt bilder av heltene i det sommerlige og romantisk hjørnet :)

Jeg har nå laget nye websider og blogger for kolleksjonene MeMini og Kristine Vikse. Det nærmer seg moteukene hvor kolleksjonene for høst/vinter 2010/11 blir presentert for forhandlere, og vi er veldig spente på hvordan den helt nye damekolleksjonen "Kristine Vikse" blir motatt!!!! Det er lansering på den nå, og vi har ennå ikke fått inn alle produktprøver..... Neste uke blir det fotografering til kataloger for begge, så det er travle tider!

I have made new webpages and blogs for the collections MeMini and Kristine Vikse. It is getting close to the fashion weeks where the collections for authumn/winter 2010/11 will be presented for the retailers, and we are very excited to see how the brand new womens line "Kristine Vikse" will be recieved! It is a premiere, and we still have not recieved all samples.... next week we will do photoshoots for catalogues for both collections, so it will be some busy times for us!

THE SNOWMAN

I dag har det snødd og snødd, og et fantastisk landskap åpner seg. Hva er da bedre enn å dra ut etter barne-tv og nyte stillheten snøen skaper og lage snømann! Jeg vet ikke helt hvem som var mest ivrig - minsten eller mor, men denne karen minner meg sterkt om "Snømannen", den flotte tegnefilmen om snømannen som blir levende over natta og tar med seg lillebror på eventyr.

It has been snowing and snowing all day, and a wonderful new landscape comes in sight. What is better than going outside and enjoy the silence the snow makes and make a snowman! I do not know who was most eager - the young one or the mum, but this fellow reminds me of the lovely animation film "The Snowman" about a snowman that becomes alive over night and takes the boy out on adventures.

Hjemme hos oss er det mor som står for pyntingen til jul - kanskje ikke så ulikt som i de fleste hjem! Jeg er ikke den som går til storinnkjøp av nisser, selv om vi har noen få på kjøkkenet og i gangen i år også "for barnas skyld" :) Her er noen av mine julefavoritter som jeg gleder meg til å ta fram hver advent.
Den hjemmelagde lysekronen henger hele året, men blir pyntet med 24 filt hjerter til jul. De søte bambiene kunne jeg nok også hatt framme året rundt, men det har vært slik i flere år nå, at de blir tatt fram sammen med julepynten, og står på et søvplettfat sammen med småkrystall og 4 hvite kubbelys som en adventsstake.
De to søte pikene fikk jeg av min mor for noen år siden, og minner meg om piken med svovelstikkene...

At our home mum is the one that takes care of the decoration for christmas - maybe not so different from most homes! I am not the kind that goes shopping for santas, but we do have some in the kitchen and hall this year too "for the childrens sake" ;) Here are some of my personal christmas favourites whitch I am looking foreward to bring out every advent.

PEPPERKAKER - GINGERBREAD

Årets pepperkakebakst er gjennomført - med hauger av godteri og prøvesmaking og fri fantasi fra tre musketeer her i huset! Synes resultatet ble som eventyret Hans & Grete - og gleder meg til å sette det fram like før jul.

The gingerbread baking of the year is finished, with a lot of sweets and tasting and free imagination from my three musketeers! I think the result is like the fairitale Hans & Gretl- and cant wait to place them just before christmas.

SNOW GLOBES

Her er resultatet av våre hjemmelagde snøkuler - eller rettere sagt snøglass.
Brukte oppskriften lenger nede på bloggen her, men måtte trå til med litt limpistol som fugemasse rundt lokkene, for de lekket ganske mye. Legger ut de med engler, men vi lagde også noen med nisser i.

Here are the result of our homemade snow globes . We also made some with santas, but I show you the ones with angels here. It was fun, but needed a finishing with hot glue around the lid as it was leaking water.

THAT 50`S CHRISTMAS.....

I love the quirky style of the 50`s christmas decorations. These photos are not all original 50`s but the style is definately, and the pastel colors and glitter is glamorous and soft. I remember my mums slightly odd aunt had a home full of it, some decorations even got to stay all year. One of these was a white carton church spread with glitter and playing a false melody from a music box. Up until now this style has not yet entered my christmas house, as I doubt my husband would agree to it, with all the pink. But I have bougth a few items that I will show you in a later post, that might remind some of the style.... among these glittering silver deer and some pastel christmas balls for decoration.
